The View

When visitors arrive at Villa Roccaverano, they often park the car and walk around the house to the garden; and their reaction, when passing the corner of the house, is usually just one word: Wow!

The view from the house and garden is spectacular and it never fails to awe anyone who visits the house. From the garden and large terrace is a 180° view of the Bormida valley to the east and south and to the village of Roccaverano to the west. Here’s an attempt to give you a sense of it on an warm summer morning.

What Our Guests Say:

Stunning location! Modern, warm, bright, comfortable, well equipped home with pool, grill, terrace and three full bathrooms! And fireplace! We spent Easter and the week after at Villa Roccaverano. We were six adults and 7 kids. (3 under the age of 2). We thoroughly enjoyed our time there. The views, the bright, large windows and modern, functional furniture made it easy to feel at home. We appreciated the two cribs and highchairs in place as well as hairdryers. Kitchen even had a Püree Stick to make soup / baby food with. Game room downstairs turned into Lego building workshop and hangout spot in the evening for the older kids while the adults enjoyed dinner upstairs. A lifesaver!

Villa Roccaverano is incredible and Hans could not have been a better host. He was welcoming, accessible, and so accommodating. His home is beautiful, and the pool/view/entire outdoor space is even more amazing in person. If you’re looking for a remote, relaxing, Italian getaway, it doesn’t get much better than this.

Hans Ulrik was the quintessential epitome of a gracious host. We received instant feedback when we had questions, and at the time of booking he thorough and organization with all pertinent information that allowed us to relax and not worry about a thing. We loved the villa, pictures were an understatement (even better in person) and the service provided went above and beyond which made the experience one we will long remember. Thanks to Hans Ulrik and the his lovely home, we will be returning to Alba every October. Grazie Hans!

The Architecture

Villa Roccaverano was built in 2013 by Hans Ulrik Staehr and Mette Rødtnes. They use it privately with their separate families and run it together as a succesful holiday rental business.

Mette is an experienced and award-winning Danish architect, and she is the designer behind the unique architecture of Villa Roccaverano.

Mette’s vision was to create a house which represented the best of her own Scandinavian architectural heritage as well as the most valuable qualities of the local Piedmontese building traditions. The result is a villa with an open and spacious layout, a unique integration between the interior and the exterior, built with local building techniques and materials such as natural stone, terracotta and wood.

The house is built on the site of an old farmhouse, and every single stone from the original ruin was re-used in the new villa.
